Your privacy.

Your counts. Your choice.

Updated November 4, 2026 · FoldCounter 2.0.

Data on your device

FoldCounter keeps opening history, diagnostic events, preferences and alerts on your device. The app and widgets share local storage; Apple Watch receives data from its paired iPhone. No account is required. Files are exported or shared only when you request it.

Optional profile and public rankings

You can view Community statistics and rankings without signing in or agreeing to share usage statistics. Signing in with Apple is optional. If you sign in, you automatically join the public rankings for total openings and best game scores. Your existing opening total and best scores are uploaded when you first sign in. Your nickname, chosen emoji or photo, opening total and game scores are public.

To provide your account and notifications, the server stores a protected version of your Apple account identifier (a hash), the credentials that keep you signed in, your profile, and the delivery code, delivery environment and preferences for push notifications. Notifications also require permission from iOS. In Settings → Privacy, you can delete your profile, account and associated Community data; your local history stays on your device. Your profile is separate from the optional usage statistics described below.

Optional usage statistics

At the end of setup, you can choose to share basic statistics with the developer to improve FoldCounter and produce public aggregate Community statistics. Version 2.0 preserves your previous choice: existing consent keeps sharing enabled, and a previous refusal keeps it disabled. No analytics data is sent without consent. Community statistics, rankings and personal features remain available without sharing usage statistics. Your refusal is saved only on your device. You can change your choice in Settings.

With your consent, we share a random installation code, cumulative counters of physical openings, physical closings received through Shortcuts and app foreground entries, your local opening total (including existing history and any starting count), latest activity time, app version/build and setup completion status. Closings are counted for sharing only from version 1.3 onward while sharing is enabled; historical closings are not uploaded. Detailed opening or closing logs, opening durations, backups and diagnostic events are not uploaded. Uploads may occur when Shortcuts records an opening or closing without showing the app. Offline uploads are retried at subsequent opportunities.

From version 2.0, the same optional sharing also includes cumulative counts for starts of each of the four games, opens of each of the three tools, saved dashboard edits (including adding, removing, resizing and moving cards), applied presets, enabling or disabling threshold alerts, notification permission granted by iOS, and enabling or disabling iCloud backup. Only actions taken while sharing is enabled are counted; previous usage is not imported. These counts use the same random installation code and are pseudonymous. Usage statistics do not include game scores, dashboard layouts, measured angles, exact notification thresholds or backup contents. Your existing sharing choice is preserved without asking again.

No advertising, sale or cross-service profiling

Statistics are used only to improve FoldCounter and calculate community totals. We do not sell the data, use it for advertising or connect it with activity in other companies’ apps or websites. For usage statistics, we do not collect names, emails, advertising or hardware identifiers, contacts, location or hinge angle. The random code distinguishes installations without identifying you by name: individual records are therefore pseudonymous, not absolutely anonymous.

Public Community statistics contain only aggregate numbers, without individual installation codes. Totals include contributions from inactive installations and retained aggregates from installations whose individual records have been removed. They cover only participating installations, not all App Store downloads, and do not represent unique people. An installation is active if it shares a physical opening, physical closing, app foreground entry or one of the usage actions described above within the last 30 days.

Control and retention

You can stop sharing usage statistics in Settings → Privacy. Subsequent uploads stop, pending uploads are cleared and in-flight requests are cancelled where the system allows. A request already received by the server cannot be withdrawn by cancelling the connection. Your local counts are unaffected.

Records associated with the random code are retained until you request their deletion. Aggregates without the code may be kept longer. Disabling sharing does not automatically erase previously shared records. To request deletion, use the privacy reference code available in settings and contact [email protected]. Without that code we cannot associate analytics records with your name or email. An installation returning after deletion may be counted as new.

Connections and security

Uploads use HTTPS. The server and network/hosting providers necessarily process IP addresses to deliver connections and may process technical logs for security and maintenance. IP addresses are not stored in FoldCounter analytics tables. Server administrator credentials are not included in the app.

Other data and contact

You can disable notifications in iOS Settings and automatic counting in Shortcuts. Local data remains until you erase it or delete the app; exported files and Apple backups must be managed separately. The informational website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. If you email support, we receive your email address and the content you send solely to handle your request. For privacy questions, data requests or deletion, contact the developer at [email protected].

Optional iCloud backup: from version 2.0 you can enable automatic backups of history, goals, alerts, appearance preferences and home layout to your iCloud Drive. The developer cannot access these backups. Privacy consent and device setup are not restored. Backups are prepared while the app is active and uploaded by iCloud when possible; the latest seven copies per device are retained after upload. Disabling backups stops future saves but does not delete existing copies, which you can manage in iCloud Drive.
